Northern Kentucky University Norse baseball lost to Toledo on March 10 at the Bill Aker Baseball Complex in Highland Heights, Kentucky. The Norse were defeated by a score of 12-3 after allowing eight runs in the final two innings.
The loss comes as Northern Kentucky sought to recover from a recent road sweep at Florida State. Both teams now hold records of 7-8 for the season.
Toledo took an early lead with single runs in the second and third innings. Northern Kentucky briefly moved ahead with three runs in the third, but Toledo responded with two more runs in the fourth inning. After several scoreless frames, Toledo extended its advantage late in the game, including six runs on seven hits during the ninth inning.
Toledo’s offense produced 17 hits over 45 at-bats, while Northern Kentucky managed three hits from 29 at-bats and used nine pitchers throughout the contest. Pierce Bauerle led Northern Kentucky offensively, finishing one-for-four with two runs batted in. Ethan Thomas and Jackson Wang each went one-for-three and scored a run.
Northern Kentucky will return home on Friday to begin Horizon League play against Milwaukee.
