Northern Kentucky University softball head coach Morgan Gerak announced her resignation for family reasons, effective at the end of the season, according to a May 18 statement.
Gerak’s departure comes after a season in which the Norse achieved significant milestones, including winning the Horizon League Championship and advancing to the NCAA Division I Softball Championship for only the second time in program history. The team also recorded its highest finish ever in Horizon League regular-season standings, placing second.
“We want to thank Morgan for her passion, leadership and contributions to NKU, as well as her dedication to our student-athletes,” said Interim Director of Athletics John Mason. “We wish her and her family nothing but the best as they begin this new chapter.”
Reflecting on her tenure, Gerak said: “It has been my privilege to be the head coach at Northern Kentucky University the last two years. NKU is a special place to coach, and I’m incredibly grateful to Coach Gleason for giving me my first full-time position on her staff. I will be stepping away from college softball to serve my family in this next stage of life.
To the student-athletes I’ve had the opportunity to coach over the last few years — thank you. You are what makes this job worth it. Go Norse!”
Gerak joined Northern Kentucky University’s softball staff before the 2023 season and became head coach ahead of 2025. In two seasons leading the program, she compiled a 48-52 overall record with a 23-17 mark in Horizon League play. Her teams won one league tournament championship and made one NCAA Tournament appearance during that span.
During Gerak’s tenure as head coach, seven players earned Horizon League All-Academic honors while ten were named All-Horizon League honorees. The team also achieved its longest winning streak since moving up to Division I by winning ten consecutive games in 2026—ending with a close victory over Robert Morris in the conference championship game.
A national search for Gerak’s replacement will begin immediately.
