Latonia – Mary Jean Byrley, 98, of Latonia, passed away on Tuesday, May 5, 2026, at Rosedale Green. Born on April 17, 1928, in Covington to Hugh and Mary Schlocter O’Hare, she was the beloved wife of the late Howard Byrley. A cherished member of Holy Cross Church, Mary Jean had a deep appreciation for nature, gardening, and canoe rides. She was known for her talent as a nature and essay writer, as well as a skilled dulcimer player and member of the Hills of Kentucky Dulcimer Society.

Mary Jean’s legacy lives on in her children, Mark Byrley (Linda), Sue Byrley (the late William Hambley), and Patrick Byrley, as well as her 11 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by daughters Eileen, Ellen, and Donna Byrley, and a sister, Carol Motz.

A Mass of Christian Burial is scheduled for Friday, May 15, 2026, at Holy Cross Church, with visitation taking place from 11 AM to 12 PM. Burial will follow at Mother of God Cemetery. Floral Hills is handling the funeral arrangements as they honorably serve the Byrley family during this time.

In memory of Mary Jean Byrley, memorial trees or flowers can be ordered through the family’s flower store, serving as a symbol of remembrance for a woman who brought joy through her love of nature and music.
