Kentucky State Police reports fatal single-vehicle crash in Carroll County

A passenger died, and a driver was arrested on vehicular homicide and DUI charges after a single-vehicle crash in Carroll County, Kentucky State Police said.

According to police, Luis Antonio Orduno of Mexico was driving a 2014 Jeep Cherokee when it left West Jay Louden, slid sideways and struck a building. The passenger, Luis F. Mayoral Moguel of Glencoe, was pronounced dead at the scene. Orduno was treated for injuries before being jailed at the Carroll County Detention Center with charges including vehicular homicide, DUI first degree, no operator’s license, no insurance, and criminal mischief first degree.

The case is being reconstructed by Trooper J. Votaw with pending autopsy and toxicology results.

According to a Kentucky State Police crash report, Carroll County recorded 372 traffic collisions in 2024, including two fatal crashes. Kentucky State Police Post 5 patrols Carroll County, along with Gallatin, Henry, Oldham, Owen and Trimble counties. The agency has said impaired driving incidents remain a focus for its patrols in the region.

In 2024, 11,904 people died in alcohol-impaired driving crashes nationwide, accounting for about 30% of all traffic fatalities across the United States, according to NHTSA data.

The Kentucky State Police is the commonwealth’s primary statewide law enforcement agency, with 16 posts, including Post 5 in Campbellsburg, according to their official website.
