Kenton County officials announced on Mar. 4 that the draft Five-Year Aging Readiness Plan is now open for public comment as part of the ongoing Age Well Initiative, which began in January 2025.
The initiative addresses the county’s growing population of older adults and aims to prepare for changing needs in housing, health care, and community support. The plan proposes strategies to strengthen long-term care, caregiving, transportation, housing options, and community connections so that older residents can remain active and supported within their neighborhoods.
The Age Well Initiative engaged 424 residents, caregivers, service providers, and stakeholders through surveys, interviews, focus groups, and community conversations. Organizers said the process used an asset-based approach focused on existing strengths within Kenton County. “The vision is to create a community where older adults can remain rooted in supportive neighborhoods with the resources they need to age well and continue contributing to a thriving region,” according to the announcement.
Residents are encouraged to review the draft plan online and submit feedback using an attached form. Officials say this input will help shape how Kenton County plans for its future as demographic changes continue.
Kenton County emphasizes transparency by providing public access to agendas, meetings, and fiscal information; maintains administrative offices at 1840 Simon Kenton Way in Covington; serves Northern Kentucky residents through efficient local government; operates under a fiscal court system led by a Judge/Executive with three district commissioners; and facilitates partnerships along with redevelopment funding for local projects—all according to the official website.
Public participation is considered essential as county leaders work toward finalizing policies that will impact services for aging residents over the next five years.
