James E. Smith, 90, of Edgewood, Kentucky, formerly of Hebron, passed away at The Summit of Edgewood Assisted Living on August 18, 2025. Born on August 30, 1934, in Elgin, Tennessee, to Everett and Flora Smith, James was a retired Mechanical Engineer for Belcan Corp and a U.S. Army veteran.
A devoted member of Hebron Lutheran Church and the Hebron Masonic Lodge F & AM #757, Scottish Rites, and Cincinnati Shriner’s, James was also known as a Kentucky Colonel and enjoyed spending time outdoors. A pilot, he owned his own plane, and he and his wife explored the world together.
Preceded in death by his parents and three sisters, James is survived by his wife, Wanda Smith, with whom he would have celebrated their 55th anniversary on August 22. He also leaves behind numerous nieces and nephews whom he loved dearly.
A graveside service with Military Honors will be held at Hebron Lutheran Cemetery in Hebron on Saturday, August 23, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. The Middendorf-Bullock Funeral Home in Hebron is serving the family.
