Household hazardous waste collection set for November 1 in Northern Kentucky

Northern Kentucky residents will have the chance to dispose of hazardous household materials at no cost during the annual Household Hazardous Waste Collection Event on November 1. The event is designed to promote safe disposal practices, protect local waterways, and keep harmful substances out of landfills.

Last year’s event saw participation from nearly 3,000 vehicles. Organizers are advising attendees to expect possible wait times due to the high turnout.

Accepted items for drop-off include aerosol cans, antifreeze, all types of batteries, corrosives and flammables, electronics (including any item that plugs in or uses a battery), ink and toner cartridges, light bulbs, oil and car fluids, oil-based paint (up to 10 containers), pesticides, tanks and cylinders, and televisions (with a limit of two per vehicle).

Items not accepted at the event are appliances, ammunition or explosives, fertilizer, latex paint, medications or pharmaceuticals, and radioactive materials.

Residents who wish to participate must complete a registration form before the event. Only residents from Boone, Kenton, or Campbell County are eligible; businesses cannot take part. Organizers recommend planning for extended wait times due to expected large attendance.
