Habitat for Humanity of Greater Cincinnati is seeking volunteers for its upcoming Rock the Block event in Covington’s Botany Hills neighborhood, scheduled from November 6 to 8, 2025. The initiative marks Habitat’s first build in Northern Kentucky in about six years and aims to bring together community members to work on various projects.
The three-day event will focus on building new homes and making exterior repairs, painting, landscaping, and general cleanup throughout the neighborhood. According to organizers, most tasks are suitable for volunteers aged 13 and older, with no prior experience required.
This year’s Rock the Block is being held in partnership with the City of Covington as part of Habitat for Humanity’s Pope Leo Village campaign. The campaign includes constructing eight homes on John Street and one on Parkway Avenue. These new homes are located just north of Devou Park and less than two miles from downtown Covington, providing future homeowners with access to employment, entertainment, and recreation opportunities.
Volunteers will participate in a range of improvement projects at specific locations across Botany Hills:
– At 1346 Parkway Avenue, efforts will focus on home building.
– At addresses including 1110 John Street, 1315 Banklick Street, 1117 High Street, 1348 Parkway Avenue, 409 East 13th Street, and 958 Spring Street, volunteers will assist with exterior painting, landscaping cleanup, minor repairs or fencing.
– An interior painting project is also planned at Prince of Peace Academy at 625 Pike Street.
“Rock the Block is a three-day, community-centered event where volunteers join together for one or more days to help build new Habitat homes and complete exterior projects for neighboring homeowners. Each day begins with a kickoff celebration before volunteers head to their assigned worksites. Projects may include painting, landscaping, minor exterior repairs, and general neighborhood cleanup,” according to Habitat for Humanity.
Organizers emphasize that the event is family-friendly and open to individuals of all abilities. Once construction and repairs are completed during Rock the Block Covington, all participants will gather for a home dedication ceremony celebrating both new homeowners and improvements made within the neighborhood.
