The City of Covington is moving forward with its riverfront redevelopment as Funke Real Estate Group prepares to break ground on the first single-family homes in the Covington Central Riverfront neighborhood. The groundbreaking ceremony, led by Jodi Funke, President of Funke Real Estate Group, is scheduled for Thursday, December 4, 2025, at noon. The event will be held at the intersection of Russell Street and Stewart Alley, across from the newly established Russell Park promenade.

Funke Real Estate Group is a local company that has participated in Aviatra Accelerators, a business incubator focused on supporting women entrepreneurs. This project marks the group as the first women-owned development firm to begin construction in the redeveloped riverfront district. The company is overseeing development of Block A, which will eventually feature ten single-family homes and two mixed-use buildings on corner lots.

The initial home planned for Block A will be a three-story residence covering 2,588 square feet. It will include three bedrooms, three full bathrooms, and a rooftop deck.

“With this project, we are not just building homes – we are helping shape a new vibrant, walkable community where people can truly live, work, and thrive,” said Jodi Funke. “This groundbreaking represents our commitment to creating beautiful modern housing that strengthens Covington for generations to come.”

This development takes place within a 23-acre site situated west of Madison Avenue and north of Fourth Street in Covington’s downtown area.

Event organizers have advised attendees to park in Lot O—the former IRS overflow lot at 302 W. 4th Street—and follow marked sidewalks to reach the event location.
