FOIA Request to Northern Kentucky University regarding Chinese National students on June 16, 2025.
North Kentucky News has submitted a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request to Northern Kentucky University in Highland Heights. The request seeks detailed information about Chinese National students currently enrolled at the university. This inquiry is made under the Kentucky Open Records Act § 61.872 et seq., with a preference for receiving the data in electronic format.
The request specifically asks for documents or lists that show all current students who are Chinese Nationals, including their department of study. If this information is protected, the request asks for a total number of such students and a breakdown by department. Additionally, it seeks records showing the amount and source of scholarships received by these students. The request also asks for identification of scholarship recipients affiliated with the Chinese Scholarship Council.
Furthermore, North Kentucky News is requesting any policies or procedures that describe how the university monitors its students, including Chinese Nationals, to protect intellectual property and other confidential information.
This FOIA request was sent on behalf of North Kentucky News and The Coalition Opposing Governmental Secrecy, an organization dedicated to promoting transparency within governmental agencies. The requester has also applied for a fee waiver as a media professional involved in gathering and reporting news to the public.
We look forward to receiving this information in an electronic format as it will greatly aid in our reporting efforts. As always, we remain open for any questions or clarifications regarding this request.
