The City of Florence has announced plans for its Arbor Day Celebration, set for Saturday, September 20, 2025. The event will be held at the Florence Government Center on Ewing Boulevard from 10 a.m. to noon.

Florence continues its tradition of recognizing Arbor Day, which highlights the importance of trees in both the environment and community life. In recognition of its ongoing efforts in urban forest management, the city was named a 2024 Tree City USA by the Arbor Day Foundation. This marks the 33rd consecutive year Florence has received this designation. To qualify for Tree City USA status, communities must maintain a tree board or department, have a tree care ordinance, dedicate an annual budget to community forestry, and host an Arbor Day observance and proclamation. Florence also received a Tree City USA Growth Award for environmental improvement and high standards in tree care. The Tree City USA program is managed by the Arbor Day Foundation along with the U.S. Forest Service and National Association of State Foresters.

This year’s celebration will feature activities such as tree planting, a brief history of Arbor Day, a reading of the city’s official proclamation, and complimentary lunch. The event is open to all residents.

For more information about the celebration, residents can contact the City of Florence Public Services Department at 859-647-5416.
