COVINGTON, Ky. – Read Ready Covington’s annual Early Childhood Fun Fest is scheduled for Friday, June 20, at the David Housley Pavilion in Randolph Park. The event will run from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. and is free for families with children aged six years or younger.
The festival aims to provide young children in Covington with a strong start in their school careers through engaging activities and community involvement. This year, the event has been moved from fall to summer to offer timely developmentally appropriate activities and better prepare children for the upcoming school year.
Mary Kay Connolly, Director of Read Ready Covington, explained that the new date allows programs like HeadStart, preschools, and kindergartens more time for early registration. Connolly described the Fun Fest as a passion project and emphasized its importance for child development.
“This is an opportunity for families to engage in developmentally appropriate games and activities with their children,” said Connolly. “Be ready to have fun participating in activities with your children in mind, and take some cool stuff to do at home.”
The event will feature various attractions including PNC’s Grow Up Great Mobile Learning Adventure (MLA), which provides parents and caregivers with insights into early childhood education while engaging them in fun activities with their children. Other activities include Box Play hosted by Funshine, Keep the Beat hosted by James E. Biggs Early Childhood Center, animal adventures featuring Hillview Farms petting zoo and bunnies from Northern Kentucky Community Action Commission (NKCAC) HeadStart’s Ms. Kim.
Additionally, free Family Guides will be provided by the Kentucky Department of Education while supplies last. Refreshments such as pizza, popcorn, and beverages will be available courtesy of NKCAC HeadStart, Read Ready Covington, and Kroger on Madison Ave.
Read Ready Covington is a literacy initiative led by a collaboration of literacy champions across the city aimed at fostering educated and engaged citizens from today’s young children.
