Newport – Earl “Sonny” Bradford Mitts, 86, of Newport, passed away on July 29, 2025, at St. Elizabeth Medical Center in Ft. Thomas. Born on March 31, 1939, in Newport to the late Earl and Florence Helen Mitts, Sonny dedicated his career to working as a machine technician at Walt’s Center Lanes and Bellewood Lanes before his retirement.

Sonny had a lifelong passion for model trains, with many sets lovingly displayed in his basement. He found joy and relaxation in overseeing his miniature train collections throughout his life.

Earl was reunited with his late wife, Wilma Jean Mitts, his son, Earl Thomas Mitts, his daughter, Pam Hutchinson, his sons Harold Lemon and Monty Lemon, brother Edward Mitts, and sister Nori Huff.

He is survived by his daughter, Roberta (Donnie Couch Sr.) Couch of Hebron, KY, as well as several grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and his son Tony Lemon. Nieces Melody Slade, Rebecca Underwood, and Heather Hopper also remember him affectionately.

Visitation to remember Earl will take place from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm on Tuesday, August 5, 2025, at Dobbling, Muehlenkamp-Erschell Funeral Home in Bellevue, KY. A Funeral Ceremony will commence at 1:00 pm, followed by burial in St. Stephen Cemetery in Fort Thomas, Kentucky. Memorials in honor of Earl are suggested to the charity of the donor’s choice.
