The City of Covington has announced changes to its Small Business Incentive Program, aiming to provide better support for local entrepreneurs and commercial property owners. The program, which is known for aiding business growth in Covington’s districts, now offers increased award amounts and simplified application processes.

Significant updates include an increase in the maximum forgivable loan amount for exterior improvements from $6,000 to $10,000 under the Façade Improvement Forgivable Loan. For historic signage projects, the reimbursement cap has been raised from $7,500 to $10,000 with a reduced private match requirement of 20%, down from 25%.

Joe Fessler, owner of Herb & Thelma’s Tavern, shared his experience with the Historic Electric Signage Incentive. “When we undertook the daunting task of restoring our 1960s Wiedemann Neon sign… Finding out about the City of Covington Electronic Sign Grant allowed us to do the restoration,” he said.

Businesses interested in these incentives must meet with the Historic Preservation Office by July 25 and submit completed applications by August 8. More information is available on the Economic Development Department’s website.
