Covington, Kentucky is continuing its efforts to improve parking in the Mainstrasse Village commercial district. The Covington Motor Vehicle Parking Authority has announced an Open House event scheduled for July 17. This event will allow residents, business owners, and visitors to provide feedback on proposed changes aimed at making parking more accessible and efficient.

Kyle Snyder, Executive Director of the Covington Motor Vehicle Parking Authority, stated, “After talking with residents and business leaders, as well as conducting parking studies in-house, using ABM staff who are also residents, I think it is clear that parking in the Village could be improved. We don’t have a set plan; we will be making a modest change, then reassess. Then consider the next change, working to improve the parking situation.”

The strategy includes several initiatives:

– The John R. Green Garage now offers 92 public spaces with reduced rates to encourage usage. Improved signage has been added and 20 additional spaces are available for apartment residents at a monthly fee.
– New parking meters will be installed on Main Street between 5th and 6th streets and around the corner on 6th Street.
– A low-cost parking program is being developed for employees of nearby restaurants and shops.
– A residential parking permit system is being introduced to create resident-only or limited public parking areas.

The open house will take place from 6 to 8 p.m. at The Center for Great Neighborhoods located at 321 W. 12th Street. Informational presentations will occur at the top of each hour with opportunities for discussion.
