About 60 new trees are set to be planted in West Latonia this fall, with the City of Covington inviting volunteers to participate. The Covington Urban Forestry Board will hold its Fall Tree Planting event on Saturday, October 4, from 9 a.m. to noon. Volunteers are asked to gather at the First Church of God Latonia for a brief demonstration before planting begins along three neighborhood streets.
No previous experience is required for those interested in volunteering. Participants are encouraged to bring gloves and a shovel, dress appropriately for outdoor work, and be prepared for changing weather conditions. Tools will also be available at the event.
Refreshments and donuts will be provided by Keep Covington Beautiful.
“Everyone is welcome to join. Even if it’s your first time planting a tree, someone will be happy to help you,” said Patrick Moore, the City’s Urban Forester. “We want volunteer tree planting events to be about bringing community together as much as they are about planting trees to improve the quality of life in our city.”
The initiative aims not only to enhance the appearance of neighborhoods but also to improve air quality, reduce stormwater runoff, provide shade, and contribute to a healthier community.
Neighbors, families, and community groups are encouraged to take part in this effort to make Latonia greener.
