The City of Covington has completed the transition of Scott and Greenup streets from one-way to two-way traffic between 12th and 20th streets. This project aims to calm traffic, enhance safety for pedestrians and cyclists, and reduce fast cut-through driving in the Eastside, Helentown, Austinburg, and Wallace Woods neighborhoods.
The conversion of Greenup Street was finished on October 9, with Scott Street following on October 17. Motorists will encounter new signs marking the two-way pattern, and some traffic signals have been replaced by stop signs.
As a result of the project, the KY-17 designation now extends west to Madison Avenue. This change shifts the ownership of that section of the road from the City of Covington to the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet.
Further pavement marking work, including stop bars, crosswalks, and parking spaces, is scheduled for next week, depending on the weather.
City officials are reminding drivers to be attentive, watch for new signs, and use caution as they adapt to the new traffic patterns. “City officials urge drivers to stay alert, pay close attention to signage, and use extra caution as they adjust to the new traffic patterns.”
