The City of Covington’s Public Works Department will begin its annual Leaf Pickup and Street Sweeping Program on Monday, October 20. The program is scheduled to run through Tuesday, December 16, with leaf pickup continuing citywide until December 31. After that date, city crews will prepare vehicles for the upcoming snow removal season.

During the two-month period, crews will follow a set schedule, prioritizing neighborhoods with significant tree coverage where leaves are likely to block gutters and gather along curbs. Residents are required to move their vehicles on scheduled pickup days to allow crews to work efficiently.

Residents can check the specific dates for leaf pickup on their street by using the City’s Leaf Pickup Schedule interactive map, which provides two scheduled dates based on the side of the street. On each scheduled day, crews will sweep and collect leaves from one side of the street, and temporary “No Parking” signs will be posted at least one business day in advance.

The city requests that residents rake or blow leaves to the curb, but not into the street, one day before their scheduled pickup. Leaf piles should be kept clear of parked cars, fire hydrants, mailboxes, water meters, and landscaping, and should contain only leaves without sticks, branches, or other yard waste.

Proper preparation helps crews work efficiently and prevents damage to equipment or property.

Although the formal schedule ends December 16, leaf collection may continue through December 31 if weather allows. Afterward, city workers will shift their focus to preparing for winter operations.

For more information, residents are encouraged to visit the City’s Leaf Collection webpage.
